Job Description: Field Maintenance Engineer (FME)

The Field Maintenance Engineer is responsible for managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting telecom BTS, RAN equipment, and transport/backhaul media on-site. Working alongside a site Rigger, the FME executes preventive and corrective maintenance to resolve network faults with minimum MTTR, ensuring 24/7 network operational functionality and high site uptime.

Position Details

• Education: Diploma/Degree in Electronics, Telecommunications Engineering, or equivalent.
• Experience: 1 to 10 years in telecom operations.
• Mandatory Requirements: Valid two-wheeler license and a personal bike; must possess a 5G-enabled handset.
• Age: Not exceeding 35 years.

Core Responsibilities

1. RAN & Media Maintenance

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on multi-vendor 2G, 4G, and 5G RAN systems (including FDD, TDD, Small Cells, Carrier Aggregation, and MIMO configurations).
• Troubleshoot Microwave, UBR, and fiber network systems to clear errors, packet loss, and Transport Network Layer TNL issues.
• Coordinate with external Media Partners for media provisioning and immediate fault rectification.

2. Operational Execution & Fault Handling

• Diagnose, monitor, and clear critical field alarms (e.g., VSWR mismatches, GPS synchronization clock errors, and external tower company alarms).
• Radio & Baseband Actions: BBU card de-grow, card swapping (e.g., card upgrades), BBU consolidation, baseband faulty replacements, and physical hardware/antenna replacements.
• Transmission & Optimization: MW/UBR Received Signal Level corrections, port bundling, CEN port handovers, migration activities, and MW hop rerouting.
• Ensure timely closure of allocated Work Orders without delays while properly tracking operational KPIs and SLA deliverables.

3. Stakeholder Coordination & Site Hygiene

• Interface and collaborate with Riggers, SMEs, Infrastructure teams, and Tower Companies (TOCO) to maintain site hygiene and infra functionality.
• Maintain the proper upkeep, inventory management, and tracking of field spare materials.
• Ensure strict 100% adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards and quality control policies across all assigned sites.

• Wireless Technologies: Comprehensive working knowledge of 2G, 4G, and 5G network architectures, interfaces, and underlying technologies (MIMO, VoLTE, Bandwidth, Latency).
• Transport & Backhaul: Competency in handling diverse Microwave IDU equipment (e.g., Ceragon, Flexi Hopper, SDH, PDH), fiber optics, and UBR networks.
• Diagnostics & Tools: Proficiency in interpreting system alarms (RAN, TX, Backhaul) and using various specialized field test tools.
